14:01 Marrakech Medina / My Pictures On the Walls of Café des Epices
I have been painting a large series of Paintings inspired by Persian controversial Poet of the 11th Century Omar Khayyam for the last three months, in between Marrakech Medina and a Fisherman's house lost somewhere on Essaouira's windswept Atlantic coast using industrial paint and local Pigments on large 2.30 meter canvases. Yallah. The result is to be shown South of Spain , Marbella, in Shahed Khavousi and Ahmed Ashmawi's gorgeous Gallery. I will post more info about this main upcoming event as we go. I have had a lot of luck meeting Mister Kamal Laftimi and his teams when I settled here in March. Kamal is a full-on Marrakchi and functions like a seven headed dragon. His two ryads-guesthouses are simple and gorgeous and his two main businesses the 'Terrasse des Epices' restaurant and the ' Café des Epices' Café are huge hits down here in Medinaland. Fashionable yet local , his venues and his teams are great company and utterly efficient. Kamal grew to become a close friend as he and his business partner, Nicolas, discovered my work. All along my travels and Wanders in Morocco my camera has been clicking and flashing away more often than not, and the result is an array of fun, poppy, pictures of what I call Vintage local treats. Stuff like old school Renault 4's or just worn out wall textures or personal collage-like newspaper clips I collected and shot on a cool 'vintage' local background. At any rate, when Nicolas and Kamal asked me to frame them and have them shown at the 'Café des épices' I was naturally delighted to follow suit. So , if you are around Marrakech Medina this summer, just pop in for some ' Nes-nes' ( half-half) ' café au lait' or some sweet ol'mint tea and maybe fall for one of my photos :)
