Remembering Gil Scott Heron ...
1998. I was living on the lower part of rue Championnet, in the Haitian zone of the 18th , sharing a last floor messy flat with a friend called Bika Bokenda. My room had a view on Montmartre and Bika had all of Curtis Mayfield, Gorge Clinton and Gil Scott Heron for me to dig into. I specially recall loving a song called " White Collar" from his " Moving Target" album. Last time I heard of Gil Scott was about two years ago. Some friends has seen him totally wasted onstage at the " New Morning", I remember thinking he had been caught up by his own bottle. Maybe he did. May he rest in peace.
