DENIS ON THE WALL by Firouz

I have been thinking a lot about Dennis Hopper's legacy since I first heard he had terminal cancer a couple of weeks back, just around the time he was granted his Hollywood Star and had his friend Jack Nicholson showed up in an awful American Flagged extra-large biker shirt. The image was kind of vulgar, but it had a sense of Irony, Fun and accomplishment that was true, real and touching. I saw his speech following the event, a speech that would be his last one, and there again he was bordering the ridiculous but with clown-like grace he was actually showing off pure genius as he told the world about how he had fell off his frontdoor that same morning and hit his head. He was one of the only ones and of the last men standing of his generation that had never gave in on what it was to be a Hippie, a Rider, a Poet, to be free and to know it and to use every inch of it on the way, till the very end. He was called an outsider all his life, and to me he represents what , us 21st century artists, should use more : free spirit. God bless his spirit. Ciao Rider.

Above , piece I put together for him.
